Residues in three peanut varieties grown in dieldrin treated soil.

چکیده
Three commercial peanut varieties (Starr Spanish, Florunner, and Florigiant) were grown in field plots treated with 0, 1, and 4 kg dieldrin per hectare. Soil samples were taken at planting; soil and aerial portions were sampled 10 weeks into the growing season. Peanuts were grown to maturity (16 weeks), harvested, and dried before shelling. Soils, hay, shells, and meats were analyzed for dieldrin content. All soil levels of insecticide caused detectable residues in all plant parts; furthermore, the dieldrin content of each plant part was proportional to the soil level in which it was grown. Varietal difference was detected only in the residue content of the shells where the Florunner variety contained significantly greater dieldrin levels than Starr Spanish and Florigiant. It appears possible to predict dieldrin levels in peanuts when soil residue levels are known.

Evaluation of pesticide residues in tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum) and the potential health risk to consumers in urban areas of Ghana
Kumasi, Sekondi-Takoradi, and Accra are the major recipients of agricultural commodities or productions in Ghana, primarily due to their population and ready markets. To ensure food security, meet food demands, and mitigate the threats posed by pests and diseases, pesticides are used when cultivating vegetables and fruits in Ghana. The present study has been conducted to assess the concentratio...
متن کاملUsing bait lamina and litterbags, two functional methods to monitor biological activity in soil contaminated by dieldrin. Preliminary results from Dakar (Senegal) sahelian region
The capability of bait lamina to assess biological activity of soil fauna in semi-arid zone was studied in a peri-urban area polluted by dieldrin. This method was compared to litter bags usually used in this savannah region to monitor the activity of soil macro-invertebrates. The study site is used for agriculture and the irrigation water contains known concentrations of dieldrin residues. Thre...

Pine voles (Microtus pinetorum) were collected from pesticide-treated orchards in New York (USA) and fed to three captive American kestrels (Falco sparverius) for 60 days to evaluate potential hazards from soil-borne persistent insecticides. Three control kestrels were fed uncontaminated laboratory mice (Mus musculus). The pine voles contained an average of 38 ppm lead, 48 ppm DDE and 1.2 ppm d...
متن کاملNutrient uptake of peanut genotypes under different water regimes
Drought is a serious environmental stress limiting growth and productivity in peanut and other crops. Nutrient uptake of peanut is reduced under drought condition, which reduces yield. The objectives of this study were to investigate nutrient uptake of peanut genotypes in response to drought and to estimate the relationship between nutrient uptake and peanut yield under different water regi...
